Ejaculation Needless to say, most men don't think too much about the subtle intricacies of what actually physically occurs when they have an erection and orgasm. It is probably a good thing because it really is somewhat of complex process. Fortunately, the process is a very pleasurable one and the less you think about it, the better off you are anyway. But it is important, if you are struggling with erectile dysfunction or ejaculation difficulties, to be aware of what exactly is happening with your body. For men, sex begins with an interest and desire. From that point, the state of arousal begins to emerge. Often this is the result of what the man sees, hears, touches, or imagines from a sexual point of view. As this state of arousal intensifies, the nerves in the pelvis area send a message to the arteries in the penis to let more blood in, which produces an erection. After full arousal, the next stage is ejaculation, which actually starts with an emission. The man's automatic nervous system and that part of which is located in the lower spinal column area, sends nerve messages to the prostate gland to begin contracting and sending fluid into the uretha. At that time, like a great symphony of physical music, muscles in the van deferens and seminal vesicles start expelling semen into the uretha. Taking their cue, the muscles in the penis and pelvis begin a series of extremely pleasurable contractions that expel the semen forward and out of the penis. Ejaculation is then followed by a state referred to as detumenscence. The arteries in the penis begin to narrow and the veins become larger to allow blood to drain from the penis and help it return to it's normal pre-arousal state. As mentioned earlier, this whole process is instinctive and automatic. Within the very pleasurable act of sex there are quite a few complex interactions that are occurring. Because of this, things can go wrong - for any number of reasons, which leads to men experiencing problems with erections and ejaculations. Although complicated from a physiological viewpoint, sexual performance issues are very treatable and the success rate is quite high in terms of dealing with either erectile dysfunction or ejaculation disorders. |
